Many people who have been out of education for a while or who have focused on other areas of their life may feel a degree is out of their reach. However, at the Centre for Addiction Treatment Studies we make this a reality for many people.
We pride ourselves on creating a unique and enhanced learning environment where our students are supported to reach their full potential and achieve their dream of making a difference to people’s lives. Our students range from the age of 18 to 65 years old. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have qualifications, as your experience is important. Every student is united by a common goal – to help tackle the impact of addiction.
Examples include:
• Individuals who have had their own personal journey with addiction – please note we require all applicants to have been in recovery for at least two years at the start of their degree.
• Individuals who have experienced the impact of addiction on family members and friends.
• College students wishing to go into a helping profession and make a difference to the lives of others.
• Mature students who are embarking on a first career, a career change or who want to learn a specialism in the counselling profession.
Applications for the Addictions Counselling FdSc degree programme must be submitted via UCAS. The UCAS course code is B940 and the institution code is B16.
The closing date for applications is 30 June prior to enrolment in September.
Applicants who have met the entry requirements for the degree programme are required to attend a two-day selection process which takes place three times a year, normally in April, May and July each year.
The selection process includes a number of one-to-one and group exercises and a homework assignment. The University of Bath will notify applicants of the outcome of the selection process.
Your application, especially your personal statement, should demonstrate your interest in studying this degree and any relevant experience you have related to addictions counselling. This might include relevant voluntary or work experience.
We accept a wide range of qualifications for entry onto this course. We may be able to consider you without formal qualifications if you have a minimum of two years' relevant work experience.
If you are taking a GCE A level in a science subject, you will need to pass any separate science practical endorsement.
You will need to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check during this course. If you are a student who requires a Tier 4 visa to study you will not be able to join this course.
