Action on Addiction is a franchised partner of The University of Bath, and both the foundation (FdSc) and honours degrees (BSc Hons) in Addictions Counselling are awarded by the university. Whilst both courses are taught at our Centre for Addiction Treatment Studies in the ancient town of Warminster, Wiltshire, our students have access to all the library, sports and recreational facilities which are available at the university's campus.
Students are not required to relocate to participate in our degree programme: teaching takes place in blocks - typically a week at a time - and work-based learning placements are located all over the UK. On site bed and breakfast accommodation is available for students during teaching weeks.
Our students are taught in small learning groups, and teaching staff are readily available to offer support during teaching weeks. The quality of teaching has been commended by our external examiners and, due to the quality of academic teaching and work placement experiences, the programme has achieved 100% in previous National Student Surveys. Eighty eight per cent of our students go on to find employment in the first year after they graduate.
Eligible students who successully complete the two-year FdSc in Addictions Counselling can enroll for a further year of study leading to the award of BSc (Hons) in Addictions Counselling. Our foundation degree is accredited by the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Practitioners (FDAP), and graduates are eligible to apply to become an accredited practitioner with FDAP.
Applications for the degree programme must be submitted via UCAS by 30 June prior to enrolment in September.
Our degree programme achieved 100% in the National Student Survey in 2015 and 2016. All our tutors are subject matter experts and have extensive experience in addiction and associated fields. Their expertise, together with personalised tutor support and small learning group sizes ensure our students - including those who are not used to fulltime study - have the best possible learning experience.
Our degree courses are accredited by the University of Bath, and after graduating with a University of Bath degree, 88% of our students find emplyment within a year. Meanwhile, our students have access to the university's facilities, including its library and students' union as well as its world-class sports facilities.
Students participate in teaching blocks - typically a week at a time - and work-based placements can usually be found close to home so there is no requirement to relocate in order to study for a degree at The Centre for Addiction Treatment Studies.
