Paul worked as a chef for over 20 years and at one point owned his own restaurant. Having recovered from an alcohol addiction himself and in his new career as an addictions therapist, he is now pursuing the thing he is most passionate about: breaking the stigma of addiction.
Paul says: “There is a lack of understanding about addiction among the general public. Addiction is not just the man sat on a park bench with a brown paper bag or the person living in a squat with a needle. The more people we can teach about addiction, the further we will spread the word that addiction comes in many forms and can affect anyone.”
Enrolling for a foundation degree in Addictions Counselling at the Centre for Addiction Treatment Studies was a transformational step for Paul and like most of our students, he didn’t have to relocate as he was able to secure a placement close to where he lived.
